Care Summary

A hardy, peaceful bottom-dweller and one of the most popular community fish in the hobby. Schools along the substrate sifting for food and occasionally darts to the surface to gulp air; this is normal behaviour, not distress. Requires a soft substrate and tank mates of similar temperament. Excellent beginner fish but commonly kept in groups too small for their wellbeing.

Tankmates

A peaceful schooling species that must be kept in groups of at least 6. Solitary corydoras become stressed and stop foraging. Compatible with most peaceful community fish. Avoid sharp or coarse substrate as it damages their delicate barbels; smooth sand or rounded gravel is ideal.
